The Pride of LGBT Tartan: Tailoring That Tells Your Story

The Pride of LGBT Tartan: Tailoring That Tells Your Story - Gresham Blake Online

Recently, a client came to us with a wonderfully personal idea: a pair of bespoke trousers made from the official Pride tartan. Not a printed fabric or a colourful interpretation, but the authentic registered tartan, cut to their exact measurements and made exclusively for them.

It's exactly the kind of project we love. Because bespoke tailoring isn't about following trends, it's about creating something that couldn't exist for anyone else.

The Official Pride Tartan

The cloth itself carries genuine history.

Known as The Pride of LGBT Tartan, it was designed by Brian Wilton and officially registered with the Scottish Register of Tartans in 2017. Like Scotland's historic clan tartans, it forms part of the country's recognised textile heritage.

According to the official register, the tartan was created as "a watershed for the modern LGBT movement" in tribute to the protests in New York in 1969 that helped shape the fight for LGBTQ+ rights. Its design is based on the New York City tartan, woven with the vibrant colours that have become recognised around the world as symbols of Pride.

That heritage is what makes the cloth so special. It isn't simply colourful fabric—it tells a story. Woven with purpose, it represents identity, visibility and community, while remaining unmistakably a beautifully balanced tartan.

Bespoke Tailoring, Made Around You

Every bespoke commission starts with a conversation.

Whether you're choosing an iconic tartan, designing a completely unique suit, or creating something for a once-in-a-lifetime occasion, every garment is cut to your exact measurements and built around how you want to look and feel.

For this client, that meant a pair of trousers unlike anything available off the shelf.

Designed specifically for them. Fitted specifically for them. Made to be worn with confidence.

That's what bespoke tailoring should be.

Proudly Tailored in Brighton & London

As a Brighton tailoring house, this project felt especially close to home.

Brighton has long been one of the UK's most vibrant LGBTQ+ communities, and Pride is woven into the city's identity. At Gresham Blake, we've always believed clothing should help people express who they are, rather than ask them to fit into someone else's idea of style.

Whether it's an unexpected lining, colourful embroidery, a distinctive cloth or an entire suit built around your personality, we love helping clients create garments with genuine meaning.

Bespoke Wedding Suits for Everyone

Many of our LGBTQ+ clients come to us looking for wedding tailoring that feels authentically theirs.

That might mean matching bespoke suits, contrasting jackets, colourful waistcoats, Pride tartan details, embroidered wedding dates, personalised linings, or something completely unique that reflects your relationship.

There are no rules.

We'll work with you to create wedding outfits that fit beautifully, photograph brilliantly and feel unmistakably you.

Whether you're getting married in Brighton, London or further afield, our bespoke tailoring service is designed around your vision from the very first consultation.

Your Story, Tailored

The best bespoke commissions aren't always the loudest.

They're the ones that mean something.

Whether you're planning your wedding, celebrating Pride, dressing for a special occasion or simply want a suit that feels completely your own, we'd love to help bring your ideas to life.

Visit us in Brighton or Soho, London, book a bespoke consultation, and let's create something that couldn't belong to anyone else.

Happy Pride from all of us at Gresham Blake 🏳️🌈
