Personality on the Payroll: Uniforms for Brands That Don't Take Themselves Too Seriously - Gresham Blake Online

Not every brief asks for hushed elegance, and frankly we're glad. Some of our favourite work has been for brands with a wink in their personality — venues where the whole point is that guests are meant to have fun. Swingers, the crazy golf club that turned mini-golf into a night out, is exactly that kind of brief.

The temptation with a playful brand is to lean on novelty, and that's the trap. A gimmick uniform is funny once and tired by week two. The better answer is proper tailoring with personality dialled in through colour, print and detail — clothing that's clearly having a good time but is still cut well enough to wear every shift. Bold is a discipline, not an excuse for cutting corners.

That happens to be our home turf. Vibrant prints and confident colour are what Gresham Blake is known for, so a brief that says “make it fun” is one we answer with tailoring, not fancy dress. It's the same instinct the team applies to stock uniform ranges that need character without a full bespoke programme.

There's a commercial point underneath the fun, too. For a leisure brand, staff are walking, talking marketing — every photo a guest posts puts the uniform on the internet. Get it right and the clothing earns its keep long after the round of golf. That's the logic behind the wider uniform work at Gresham Blake Studios.

Quiet luxury has its place. So does a venue that wants its team to look like the best night out in town.
