The Collaboration
Our sartorial journey with Joel Dommett began in our Brighton Bespoke Showrooms, a haven where fashion aspirations transform into reality. Joined by his wife, Hannah, we set out to create suits that would resonate with Joel's charismatic presence on screen. This collaboration was a harmonious blend of Joel's personal style and Gresham Blake's innovative tailoring ethos.
The Design Process
The initial consultation was a deep dive into Joel's fashion preferences and personality. We discussed everything from his favourite colours and patterns to the specific styles that make him feel most confident. This conversation was crucial in setting the tone for the designs – it was about getting to know Joel, not just as a client but as a person whose character would be reflected in every stitch.
Our designer played a pivotal role in translating these insights into tangible designs. Working closely with Joel and his stylist, we explored various concepts, sketching out initial ideas and experimenting with different fabric swatches. In our showrooms, surrounded by an array of exquisite fabrics, we meticulously selected materials that would stand out on television. The design process was a careful balance of aesthetics and functionality, considering factors like camera compatibility and movement ease. Each suit was a product of extensive discussions, from the cut and fit to the finer details like button selection and lining textures.

The Suits on Screen
Since the series' return in December 2023, Joel's suits have been a central point of discussion on social media. Each design is a testament to our commitment to unique style and meticulous craftsmanship.
One standout creation that particularly delighted the design team was the blue floral ensemble. Drawing inspiration from classic French Toile, we reimagined this traditional pattern for the modern era. The suit featured a graphic floral print with swooping passion flowers, where the limited colour palette truly made the illustrative print come alive. The ensemble was completed with a matching printed shirt, creating a cohesive and striking look.
This particular suit garnered amusing reactions on social media, with some comparing its design to a Wetherspoons plate. Joel, with his characteristic wit, embraced these comments, showcasing his quirky personality. This interaction highlighted not just the suit's unique design but also the playful and engaging nature of our collaboration with Joel.
Of course, we can't forget the Creepy Crawley Suit, another favourite. This suit was a bold statement piece, perfectly aligning with the show's vibrant and dynamic atmosphere. Each suit worn by Joel on "The Masked Singer" is more than just attire; it's a narrative of creativity, collaboration, and British tailoring at its finest.
